Major changes to toy standard ISO 8124-1:2018
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released the 2018 edition of ISO 8124-1 (Safety of Toys-Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties). This standard applies to toys intended for children under the age of 14, most of which are based on the existing toy standards of the European Union (EN 71-1) and the existing toy standards of the United States (ASTM F963). The main changes are as follows:
definition
Modify the definition of terms, such as: ropes, wires, large heavy toys, paper, pompoms, etc.; increase the definition of cardboard and static sound;
Widgets
Increase the exemption for cardboard in the reasonably foreseeable abuse test; exempt fiber-filled materials from a small part of the material; narrow the exemption for elastic parts to elastic fabrics;
Warning
Clarify the toy warnings for children over 36 months and under 72 months;
rope
Modify rope requirements, including warnings and length requirements for different age groups;
round covered basket
Modify the kinetic energy density required by the contact area;
