How can we know the Abrasion Resistance of Shoe Lace?

There is a detection method aiming to test abrasion resistance of shoe lace,called SATRA TM154. It is published by SATRA Technology Center Ltd, first issued September 1992 and revised March 2018.

This method is intended to assess the abrasion resistance of a shoe lace with repeated rubbing against either a similar shoe laceor a lace carrier. It can also be used to test the abrasion resistance of a lace carrier. The method is suitable for all types of shoe laces and lace carriers.

A length of the tested shoe lace is threaded through a loop formed by: the abrasion between lace and lace - a second piece of the same lace which is held open by a spacer;the abrasion between lace and carrier - a lace carrier.

The shoe lace is bent at a fixed acute angle while contacting with the loop. It is then held under a standard tension. At the same time, it is repeatedly drawn back and forth through the loop until its failure occurs.
